One day, in high school, I saw a friend of mine reading a small pocket book in French. On the cover, there was a picture of very beautiful women wearing a crown and a triple string of pearls. That was Romy Schneider in the Sissi movie. My friend told me that it was a biography and lent me the book when she was done. That was it! I was hooked. And then, in my small town, the only movie theater showed the Sissi movies, one at a time, over a three-week period. I was so disappointed to see that the movies covered so little of the Empress life and that there no more «episodes». (Of course, I could not imagine then that an actress would refuse to play the same role over and over again). Anyway, two years ago, my mother asked me to clean up some old boxes of books of mine when I visited her, and there I found my own copy of Elizabeth Burnat's book. It made me smile, and I took it to my home. One day, maybe my niece will want to read it.
