I'm brazilian and sorry for my English. I'm completely fascinated about the story of this misteryous woman and I'd like to know the real story of her life. In the Conti's book, based in letters from her honors dames and her daugthers, Sissi semed a misture of happy and unhappy person, and we know why, but a wonderfull human being as wife and mother. She shew several demonstrations of love to her husband. But on the other hands, the book of Catherine Clément is terrible, she shows the Empress like a awfull woman, without heart, a bad wife and mother and I don't agree with this version of that sensible woman, with a life story full of frustation and imposition for accept a life that she didn't want. And she said: "I love him,(refers to the Emperor), what a pit because he is an Emperror". Unfortunally, Mariskas's film crated a little lie around this couple and when we read a little bit about them, more deep,we became sad, but the were many and many problems that interfered on their hapiness and lifes. I understand Elisabeth of Austria, it was only a poor woman that had a life that didn't want.

Sissi was educated as a free bird by her parents, her character very sensitive and melancholic was seriously affected from the age of sixteen by the attitude of the Austrian Court's members and specially, by the hard attitude of her mother-in law, the Archduchess Sophie. Unfortunately, her husband did not understand her character because his mentality was more simple and his principal duty was the government of the Empire giving no importance to domestic affairs. So, in one word, she did not have any support at the Court. Accordingly, Sisi tried to go more and more far away and developed a severe depression that affected her health due to an extreme diet (anorexia), realized forced and exhausted walking, strong exercises and in her mind the wish to die become her friend. Fortunately, she was very intellectual and has a rich interior life which saved her to become mad. Poor great lady a lot of people at her side but she always felt alone. alone.

Anyone knows if the actor that made in the film the Emperor of Austria, Karl Heinz Böhm is still alive? He was so, so,so handsom and if the real Franz Joseph look liked him, I certainly falled in love. Sorry for my English! Romy Schneider I know that died many years ago after lost her son in a tragic accident.

Karl-Heinz Bohm is still alive. He does a lot of charity work, especially for Africa. His second wife was born in Africa.
